overview

An experienced entrepreneur and corporate finance strategist – Greg had never given much thought to medical marijuana until a chance viewing of Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s now infamous CNN documentary on Medical Cannabis grabbed his attention. He began to think about the possibility of creating a new kind of company for this rapidly emerging health and wellness market. He envisioned a company with a positive mission to help people feel better while capturing the opportunity to build a market-defining brand. Wilson was on the way to launching Vida.

Outstanding people and strong partnerships are at the core of Wilson’s “start with the best” strategy for Vida. An experienced team builder, Greg sought out leading executive team talents in cannabis research, operations, security and cultivation. Also a master at forging invaluable business alliances, Vida’s partnership agreement with Florida cannabis company AltMed will leverage research investment, with the aim of developing unique and proprietary medical strains and other market innovations.

In launching Vida, Greg draws on his dynamic career’s business experience building successful enterprises. He started his first business in 1988, right out of the gate as a recent graduate from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario with a degree in Economics. That venture created a company that ultimately employed over 200 people, generating annual revenues of over $13 million.

In 1992, Greg’s passion for finance led him to join Scotia McLeod, one of Canada’s top investment firms. In the next five years, he worked with the Bank of Montreal’s investment arm, Nesbitt Burns, before finishing his mainstream financial career with Merrill Lynch in 1997. In late 1997, Greg started EMT Capital Corp. and over the next 17 years worked on a number of successful capital market transactions, including M&As, IPOs and private equity financings.

Driven to pursue new opportunities, Greg was part of the group that founded Paramount Gold & Silver Corp. in 2004. Paramount is a precious metals exploration company that currently trades on the NYSE MKT and TSX, and in December 2014 announced its acquisition by Coeur Mining. In early 2009, he co-founded and led the financing of a renewable energy company with a portfolio of over 600 megawatts of wind projects in Canada, the United States and Germany. He advised a client in late 2009 on the purchase of Consumer Choice Awards, a 23-year-old private company with operations across Canada. Greg negotiated and structured the acquisition and raised the equity component of the purchase price. He continues to sit on the Board of Directors.

Financial acumen is a key element of Greg Wilson’s executive skills. He has completed the Canadian Investment Management (CIM) program, and has been awarded the Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) designation. With growing scientific support, an increasingly receptive physician community and strong public demand for cannabis-based alternative medications, Wilson anticipates consistent growth for Vida, as a pioneering industry leader, a trusted brand and a promising investment. His leadership makes Vida Cannabis a company to watch.
